Me very first pistol ...

My old Old Army, cap and ball, 457 roundball over 30 grains FFFg. A massive hand cannon the size of a Dragoon.

I wanted something without all the Fed paperwork.

Pokes holes in old hot water heaters all day long, power of a 38 Spl.

Yup, but it ruins the intent and utility.

I don't know about the "intent" thing but utility is all about flexibility. You add a .45 Colt cylinder and then you can shoot that very common caliber along with your black powder capabilities. How does that make the gun have LESS utility?

My only objection to the centerfire cylinders is they are quite expensive. Like in the $250 range last time I checked. Cheaper than buying another gun but still rather high for just a cylinder!

Very cool. I've been wanting to get an old cap and ball... either a 1851 navy or 1860 army...

I'm leaning towards the navy version. drop in conversion cylinderl is only 200 retail at most places. Donno if I'd get one, but it is an option.

I've got a Colt Navy .36. It is a nice looking gun, but I think the Remington (with the backstrap) is more sturdy and probably more accurate.

KEEP YOUR GUN CLEAN. I had one cap pop but fail to light the powder and the ball ended up just between the cylinder and the barrel (this happened due to debris in the nipple that prevented powder burn). I finally got the ball out, but it has never worked the same since then.
